WP: MATT REITER                             LP: BLAKE WHITAKER
The struggling Desperados needed a big win tonight against the Polecats, and turned to their ace right-hander, Matt Reiter to do the job.  Reiter was magnificent in the mercy-rule shortened game, pitching all seven innings, scattering four hits and walking two, while fanning seven batters along the way.  Polecats right-fielder Carlos Rodriguez was the only hitter to have mulitple hits off Rieter, going 2-3.  The Desperado offense got to work early and often against a pair of Polecat pitchers, first off starter Blake Whitaker.  Leading off the game, Desperado centerfielder Sam Pittard tripled and was brought home by SS Miguel Trujillo line-drive single one batter later.  Cory Matticola was then hit by a pitch and Richard Atkinson followed that with single to load the bases.  After Trujillo was erased at home on a fielder's choice, Matticola scored on Matt Rieter's flyout, making the score 2-0 before the Polecats came to bat.  In the third, the Desperados piced up three more runs after Sam Pittard led off with a base on balls and Trujillo hit another hard single, and Cory Matticola's double brought both runners home.  Matticola would score on a dropped fly ball in centerfield to make it a 5-0 game.  The Desperados kept the pressure on the Polecats with two more runs in the fourth against reliever Cornelius Garrett.  Justin Magnuson singled and Sam Pittard walked with none out, and Matticola's second hit of the day plated Magnuson and Pittard scooted home after a passed ball.  Matt Reiter then led off the sixth with a single and came home on Justin Magnuson's double.  Reiter led off the seventh with a double, then stole third and came home on catcher Barry Meeks RBI groundout.  Rick Pittard then singled and was replaced by Zack Talarek at first base, with Talarek making third on wild pitches before coming home on Sam Pittard's single.  Miguel Trujillo then sent Magnuson home from third with a fly ball to right, capping the scoring and bring the lead to 11-0.  The Desperados were led a the plate by Sam Pittard with a 2-3 game, scoring three runs, with two walks, a triple, a stolen base and an RBI.  Miguel Trujillo ended up 2-4 with a run, a stolen base and and RBI.  Cory Matticola was 3-3 with two runs scored, a double, 3RBI's, was hit by a pitch and walked once.  Matt Reiter was 2-4 with a double, two runs and a stolen base.  Justin Magnuson went 2-3 with a double, two runs scored, an RBI and a base on balls

WP: RONNIE JONES                           LP: DREW CANTRELL
The Hammers continued their winning ways tonight in big fashion by muzzling the Grizzlies with a 12-1 win.  Lefty Ronnie Jones pitched seven strong innings for the winning team, allowing just the lone run in the bottom half of the first after Craig Turner beat out a bunt and came around to score on Scott McBride's high arcing double, which just missed being a two run homer.  Jones settled in and the Hammers offense went to work.  Singles by Sam Wood, Ryan Coyle and Jamie Allgood resulted in Wood crossing home with the first Hammer run, and three more runs scored in the fourth.  Larry McGhee's double and Sam Wood's second hit of the game were the big hits as Nick Bruner, McGhee and Stan Lyons all scored in the inning.  McGhee, Wood and Ronnie Jones all singled and scored in the three-run sixth for the Hammers, who had thier biggest inning still to come.  The Hammers scored five runs in the ninth to put the exclamation point on the game, with all five coming with two away.  Jamie Allgood, Chaz Crumpton, Todd Laniak and Larry McGhee all had singles in the inning and Robert Cooper and Nick Bruner both doubled to produce the five runs off the third Grizzlies pitcher of the night.  Sam Wood stayed hot with a 3-4 night, with two runs, two RBI's and a stolen base.  Chaz Crumpton was 2-3, scoring once and stealing a pair of bases while walking twice.  Larry McGhee led all hitters with a 4-5 game, with two doubles, two runs, and an RBI.  Jamie Allgood went 2-3 with two RBI's and a run scored.  Chris Foster paced the Grizzlies with a 2-3 game with a walk.

WP: ROMAN KELLY                   LP: CORNELIUS GARRETT
The Polecats got their first taste of the National League's elite teams when they squared off with the Brewers in Sunday's evening affair. The result was a decisive victory for the Brewers, displaying both their powerful offense and dazzling pitching, while playing their typically stingy defense.  The Polecats, also one of the league's top defensive squads, looked to the young right-hander Cornelius Garrett to keep the league's most potent offense from running away with game.  The Polecats struck first in the second inning when Jeffrey Crosby singled home Rob Brown off of eventual winner Roman Kelly.  Kelly allowed one more run in the fourth when Carlos Rodriguez came home on Danny Tillery's fielder's choice grounder.  Relievers Kyle Johanson, Tyler Addison and Nat McCarty combined for 3 2/3 innings of one-hit relief, striking out eight along the way.  Kelly struck out nine himself, while giving up four hits and walking two.  The Brewers got behind Kelly with three runs in the third, after Neal Sheppard and Corey Parham singled to start the frame and after Sheppard was erased on a fielder's choice, Parham scored on Roman Kelly's double, and Kyle Dickerson scored the go-ahead run on Tyler Langford's grounder.  Roman Kelly moved to third and then stole home for the 3-1 lead, and the Brewers never looked back.  Jeff Kilgore scored in the fourth after drawing a walk and stealing his way to third ahead of Neal Sheppard's RBI single.  After walking Chris Ray to lead off the seventh, and with the score still 4-2, Garrett gave way to staff ace Blake Whitaker, who was rudely greeted by Gene Brewer's single and and Neal Sheppard's double, which brought Ray and Brewer to the plate.  Corey Parham's sacrifice fly brought Sheppard home with the game's final run.  Sheppard led the offensive attack for the Brewers, going 3-3, with a double, a run and 3RBI's.  Cole Butler chipped in a pair of singles in four trips.  For the Polecats, Jeff Griffeth paced the team with his 3-5 game, with a pair of doubles.  Cornelius Garrett was 2-4 in addition to his fine pitching in a losing effort.

The continually improving Islenos introduced themselves to the Heat on Father's Day afternoon and gave the Heat all they could handle. Josh McEachin started for the Islenos and was very effective over six innings of work.  McEachin held the Heat to four runs, only two earned, while fanning ten batters and walking none.  The Heat scored in the second when Chris Culver led off with a solo bomb, and starting pitcher Joel Fincher doubled and scored on an error a batter later for the 2-0 lead.  The Heat doubled their lead in the sixth when thirdbaseman Adam Swann and firstbaseman Alex Holmes hit consecutive singles and Corey Boswell's single and another Isleno error brought both runners home.  With Joel Fincher giving way to Weyman Casper in the fourth, the Heat held the Islenos scoreless until the top of the ninth when Blake Albertson's groundout plated Chuck Fleming to get the Islenos on the board before Casper shut the door and picked up the win in relief.  Brett Davis had a big game for the Heat, going 2-3 with a walk and a stolen base.  Chris Culver was 1-4 with his fourth homer of the season.  Corey Boswell was 2-2, with a stolen base.  For the Islenos, Josh McEachin was 2-3, and Chuck Fleming was 2-3 with a run.

WP: ROBERT COOPER                              LP: JAMES SMITH
The Hammers took advantage of several defensive miscues to beat the Desperados with a five-run ninth inning, breaking a four-to-four tie.  The Desperados got out to an early three-run lead when centerfielder Sam Pittard singled to lead off the game, then scored on James Smith's two-out single.  Thirdbaseman Corey Matticola walked with two outs and scored along with Smith on leftfielder Rick Pittard's single.  The Hammer struck back in the third against Desperado starter Justin Magnuson after a pair of errors to leadoff the inning allowed catcher Matt Cooper's fly out to center to become a sacrifice fly which scored Jamie Algood.  Desperado DH Pete Thorne then led off the fourth with a single and came around to score on Burton Parker's RBI groundout to make the score 4-1.  Todd Laniak led off the top of the fifth for the Hammers with a blistering solo homer to left center, and the Hammers scored again in the inning when Robert Cooper came home after being hit by a pitch on Matt Cooper's single, to bring the Hammers to within a run.  They closed that margin just an inning later when Sam Wood led off the inning with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and stole home.  The game remained tied until the top of the ninth when the Hammers pressed five runs across.  Robert Cooper led off with a double and moved to third on Matt Cooper's single ahead of Larry McGhee's sacrifice attempt, which was muffed, allowing all runners to be safe. Stan Lyons then knocked Robert Cooper in with the go-ahead run and the gates opened up on the innning, with Sam Wood and Gene Harris singling back-to-back, both scoring in the inning as well.  Chaz Crumpton singled in Harris for the final run of the game.  The Hammers were led at the plate by Matt Cooper, who was 2-5, with 2RBI's, and Sam Wood, who was 3-4, scoring twice, with two doubles and two stolen bases to go with a walk.  Todd Laniak was 1-3 with the homer and a second RBI.  The Desperados were led by Sam Pittard's 3-5 with a run, and Burton Parker's 2-4, with a walk.

WP: GREG HARDING           LP: MIKE UNDERWOOD         SAVE: CHRIS FOSTER
Both teams in tonight's matchup came into this game determined to win, and the result was a hard fought battle with the Grizzlies holding on for a one-run victory.  The Indians got behind early, but never gave up, loading the bases with two outs in the ninth inning before Andy Williams' liner was snagged by the Grizzlies' thirdbaseman to seal the win.  Greg Harding pitched the first six innings for the Grizzlies, allowing only one earned run, and was able to overcome his defense's lapses well enough to keep his team in the game. Harding's club paced him to an early two-run lead when Tommy Appling led off with a walk and Drew Cantrell singled and both runners were sacrificed ninety feet and then brought home by Chris Foster's single.  The Indians shrugged that early lead off, and scored five runs of their own in the bottom of the frame.  Travis Callaway and Mike Underwood singled with no outs, then Bryan Sigman flew out to center before and error scored Callaway and left runners at the corners.  RJ Conley then singled in Underwood and after another fly out should have ended the inning, another error kept it going, then Eli Truett's single plated Conley.  Brandon Sanders singled in another run to give the Indians a 5-2 lead.  The Grizzlies roared back with five of their own, however, in the top of the third
when Len Dalton walked to lead off the inning and catcher Scott McBride hit his third homer of the season, a titanic shot to left-center that left all outfielders stationary as they watched the ball sail into the darkness.  The Grizzlies tacked on three more in the inning for a 7-5 lead. The Grizzlies tacked on three more in the fourth when Dalton and McBride led off with walks, followed by Appling's single which scored Dalton.  Cantrell's base knock then plated both McBride and Appling for the 10-5 lead.  The Indians scored a lone error-aided run in their half of the fourth to make it 10-6, and the Grizzlies struck back for a run in the top of the fifth.  The Indians just wouldn't go away, however and scored again in the sixth, which was answered back in the eighth by the Grizzlies to bring the score to 12-7.  The Indians scored twice in the eighth due to errors and wild pitches, and brought the game to within a couple of runs with one inning left. Things got interesting in the ninth, when, with one away, Will Ryder and Eli Truett singled before a Brandon Sanders' fielder's choice erased Ryder and Travis Callaway was plunked to load the bases with two outs.  Mike Underwood then doubled in Truett and Sanders and Bryan Sigman drew a walk to load them up again.  Andy Williams stepped up with the game on the line and drilled a line drive that was snagged for the final out by Grizzlies thirdbaseman Craig Herrick.  Chris Foster picked up the three-inning save for the Grizzlies.  Other Grizzlies standouts included Matt Thompson, who went 2-6 with and RBI and a double, and Tommy Appling, who was 2-3, scoring four times, with two walks.  Drew Cantrell went 3-5 with two runs and two RBI's.  Rusty Thomas was 2-4, with a run, an RBI and a stolen base in his debut with the Grizzlies after being traded along with Len Dalton just yesterday.   The Indians were led by Will Ryder's 2-6, with a run, and Eli Truett's 2-6, with a run and an RBI.  Also, Brandon Sanders picked up a pair of hits in six at bats, scoring twice as well.  Travis Callaway's line ended up 2-2, with three stolen bases, three runs scored, with two walks and two hit by pitches.  Mike Underwood went 2-6, scoring once, with a double, a run and 2RBI's.  RJ Conley was 2-5 with an RBI and a run.

The Astros and Cannons waited nearly an hour as the thunder and lightning slowly gave way to a warm, muggy night.  The Astros won their first game of the season last week and were looking to continue that success.  The Cannons were looking to keep pace with the Desperados, at whom they are currently looking up to in the standings for second place.  The Cannons sent James Roper to the mound and gave him a five run lead in the third inning, which knocked out Astros starter Myles Watson. Jeffrey Michael led off the big inning for the Cannons by drawing a walk and moving to second on Garrett Williams' sacrifice bunt and to third on Bentley Foster's two out single.  Foster was then thrown out stealing to end the inning, but a balk call saved the innning for the Cannons and pushed Michael across for the game's first run as Foster settled in at second.  However, a walk to Corey Pruett and Matt Casto's single scored Foster, and then Alex Bernardon walked to load the bases for Gregg Foster, who promptly cleared the bases with a triple.  The game stayed at 5-0 as Cannons starter James Roper was dealing on the bump.  Roper had a no-hitter going through six innings, walking five and hitting a batter during the streak.  The Cannons fell apart in the seventh, beginning with a error allowing leadoff hitter Mike Cosper reach ahead of Tom Little's double, which broke up the no-no.  Another error followed Little's hit and the flood gates opened up on Roper as Steven Currie ripped a solid single and Jonathan Edmonds followed suit with a base knock of his own.  Myles Watson kept things going with another single and Matt Charron doubled with two outs to score two runs and Anthony Dowker singled in another.  Roper was finally lifted for Jeffrey Michael, who allowed Mike Cosper's single which capped the scoring for the inning at eight runs, seven of which were unearned.  The eight runs were more than enough for the Astros, who added three more unearned runs before this game ended, and Blaine Skaggs came on to pitch the final three innings to pick up the save in his league debut.  Hitting stars for the Astros were Steven Currie, who went 2-4 with two runs and two stolen bases, and Tom Little, who was 1-3, with a double and two walks with a stolen base.  The Cannons were led by Bentley Foster's 2-4, with a run, and Greg Foster's 1-3 with a triple and a walk.

Riley Yeargin went the distance for the Brewers in a mercy-rule shortened game, as his offense jumped all over the Indians, capatilizing on every mistake.  Yeargin fanned seven batters, scattering five hits and walking a lone batter.  1B Cole Butler was the hitting star for the Brewers, picking up a double and a pair of singles in three trips, with 3RBI's and a run.  Tyler Langford was 2-3 in his league debut, with four runs scored, an RBI, a double and a walk.  Will Ryder collected a pair of hits in three at bats to lead the Indians, and Travis Callaway pitched in a 1-2 effort, with a double.

The Cannons and Islenos met in a back and forth battle that featured five lead changes and two ties with the Cannons edging the Islenos with a come-from-behind, one-run victory.  Each team scored a pair in the first inning, the Islenos scratching theirs off starter Alex Bernardon via walks and errors.  The Cannons got their two runs off of starter Ryan Glattli when Garrett Williams led off with a single and Evan Smith walked one out later before Corey Pruett's double scored Smith after Williams had already crossed the plate thanks to an error by the Islenos catcher.  The score remained 2-2 until the third when the Cannons scored two more, with the big blow being Evan Smith's double which plated Bentley Foster after his single and Garrett Williams, who had reached by way of a fielder's choice. The Islenos capitalized on Cannons errors in the sixth to score four times and take the lead.  Matt Tilley singled and Nick Rudolph knocked him in two batters later after Jeremy Forrester reached on another error.  Forrester scored on Jeremy Flemings bases loaded walk and Ben Albertson's single brought home Rudolph and Fleming for the 6-4 lead.  The Cannons tied it right back in the seventh with two runs of their own when newcomer Gregg Foster doubled and scored on Kevin Norris' single, and Norris came home with the tieing run when another error followed Dane Valente's single.  The Islenos took a 7-6 lead in the eighth when Matt Tilley led off reaching on an error and eventually came home on Jeremy Fleming's single.  With Josh McEachin on in relief, the Islenos looked to hold on for the win entering the ninth, but Evan Smith's lead off single was followed by Cory Pruett's walk and Matt Castos single to load the bases with no outs.  After a strikeout, the tieing run scampered home on Todd Bolden's groundout and the go-ahead run scored on an error giving the Cannons the 8-7 lead.  Foster made quick work of the Islenos in the bottom of the ninth in picking up the win in relief. Foster and the Cannons got big help at the plate from Evan Smith, who went 2-2, with with a double, two RBI's, two runs scored and a walk.  Corey Pruett was 3-3, with a double, an RBI, a run, a stolen base and a walk.  Greg Foster's debut was a triumph, with a 2-4 night, with a run scored and a double to go with a stolen base.  The Islenos were led by Nick Rudolph, who was 2-4 with a run and an RBI.
